Hyundai Santa Cruz now features subtle truck-like characteristics

Introducing the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz, which has undergone minor exterior changes and more significant updates in the cabin. The compact pickup retains its familiar range of engines, but special attention is given to the XRT trim. When it debuted in July 2023, it was merely an exterior refresh package. Now, the situation has changed, albeit not drastically.

Introducing the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz, which has undergone subtle yet significant facelifts. The new grille, composed of rectangular cutouts, is now positioned above the slightly redesigned lower bumper. The distinctive V-shaped grille has disappeared, replaced by straight lines and symmetrical forms, which, frankly, make the Santa Cruz resemble more of a truck. One can’t help but wonder how much inspiration Hyundai designers drew from the square nose of the Ford Maverick, but it’s evident that this was a key point of the Santa Cruz refresh. Besides the new wheels and a special rear bumper on the XRT, the front fascia is the only exterior update you’ll find.

Speaking of the XRT, Hyundai equips it with off-road tires to help the truck navigate rugged terrain. Previously, the XRT had the same street tires as other trims, but besides the tires, some changes have occurred. The grille now features a unique pattern, and the front and rear bumpers are specific to the XRT, enhancing the approach angle for off-roading. Prominent red tow hooks have been added to the front, and special 18-inch XRT wheels are installed.

Moving to the interior, the changes here are much more apparent. The new upholstery borrows some features from the recently updated Tucson, including the curved panoramic screen integrating displays for the driver and central information system. Each screen is available up to 12.3 inches, housed on a new dashboard with a shelf above the glovebox. The cluster of tactile audio and climate controls sits in the middle, and the standout gear shifter remains in place for gear shifting. Additionally, a new Tucson-styled steering wheel has been added.

The interior refresh is accompanied by more advanced technologies. Air updates are now available, along with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto systems on all trims. Connected car technology Bluelink+ is included, as well as Hyundai Pay in-car payment systems. Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch allows you to lock or unlock the truck with your smartphone, and in terms of safety, driver attention warning has been added. Opting for the XRT also nets you standard surround-view cameras and blind-spot monitors.

Under the hood, you still have a choice of two engines. The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 191 horsepower drives either the front or all four wheels. The more potent option is the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and on XRT or Limited trims, the turbo offers a new towing mode rated for 5000 pounds.

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz will hit the market this summer. Prices will be announced closer to the sales date.
